Should you study Spanish A1, A2, B1, or B2?

Compare the topics and examples at each level.

Start at A1 if you are new to Spanish. A2 covers everyday exchanges, B1 covers connected stories and opinions, and B2 covers detailed discussions and arguments.

Choose A1 if you are starting

Start with everyday vocabulary, the present tense and short readings.

Choose A2 if the basics are familiar

You can introduce yourself and want to practise longer sentences and past events.

Choose B1 if you are comfortable at A2

Practise past-tense differences, object pronouns and the subjunctive.

Study subjunctive tenses, relative clauses, passive voice and verbs of change.

What if you are between two levels?
  1. Check listening, reading, writing, conversation and speaking on your own.
  2. Choose lower if basics still need translation or prompting.
  3. Choose the higher level when you are comfortable with the lower-level tasks in each area.
